About Hartford Excavation & Site Work

We do the earthwork the rest of a project is built on across Greater Hartford — clearing, excavation, grading, drainage and site prep — the way it should be done: matched to the ground in front of us, dug safely, and drained so it lasts.

The right machine, not the biggest one

Site work done well is about fit. A compact excavator and a skid steer belong on a tight residential lot where a full-size machine would tear up what stays; a big excavator belongs on a building site moving serious material. Bringing the equipment that matches the job and the access is how we keep both the cost and the damage to your property down — and it is the first thing a lot of outfits get wrong.

We dig safe, because the ground here bites

Every powered dig in Connecticut starts with Call Before You Dig — it is the law, and it is how a bucket avoids a gas main. Beyond the utilities, central Connecticut’s glacial soil hides stone, boulders and basalt traprock ledge close to the surface, and much of the region drains poorly. We plan for the rock and the water before we start rather than being surprised by them on your dime.

We build in the drainage

Most site-work failures — the rutted driveway, the flooded basement, the settling pad — are really water problems. So we grade to move water away from where it does damage, build the drainage into the job, and add the erosion control Connecticut requires on open sites. Getting the water right is what makes everything else last.
